Brilliant Cover pictures, a collectors classic

This book is the first, of a what I am convinced, is, if it has not already become, a classic series, of appreciating pocket size publications. I purchased my copy some years ago, sadly, not from Amazon, (sorry chaps) but from a local comic store, whilst on holiday in Florida, with my family, from the cooler climes of the city of Leeds in the county of Yorkshire, England. The internet was in its infancy. Whilst I have never met the author, Mr Mark Wade, I am aware that he is a prolific writer and lifelong fan of the comic book genre. Yet again he demonstrates his strong love of the historical context in which the characters of the DC Universe have evolved, particularly, Superman and Batman. This small inexpensive book is one of the most prized possessions in my personal comic book collection. It enables me and any other reader to time travel from June 1938, with the arrival of arguably the most important comic book character in American history, Superman, with his first appearance in Action Comics number 1, through some twenty five years, condensing the history of a quarter of a century of colour comic book covers, culminating in the classic swan cover of issue number 300 of May 1963, which anyone with a love of comics would be proud to possess. Viewing the cover I was compelled to re-read my own original copy. I love these publications, they are inimitable. What I would give to own the full series; in any condition! Waid's introduction which takes up the first thirteen pages of the book gives the reader an insight into the authors love and knowledge of the comic book medium. The pages that follow are mini works of art in themselves, combining into a single glossy product, that is probably only surpassed by the works of Ernest Gerber, but hey, look at the difference in cost! I for one, am a relatively poor, but prolific and long term comic and book collector. I did not know who the artists responsible for pencilling and inking the covers were, until reading Wade's book. Thank you Mark! If you have any interest in comic books, then this is not a book to miss. Buy it, if you can get a copy. You are not spending money, simply re investing it.
