Review in Null Hypothesis
|
Scientists have been reluctant to accept that consciousness involves more than just your brain and actually depends on the fabric of the Universe, notwithstanding that for many years the secret services of America, the United Kingdom and Russia have used allied techniques for spying purposes.
Jeffrey Keen, a successful businessman and a physicist has been researching this phenomena for over 20 years, and has now written a book Consciousness, Intent, and the Structure of the Universe providing the missing link that some scientists have dismissed. He has identified, observed and measured universal energy fields that have not previously been detected either by the usual five senses or by existing scientific instruments. Jeffrey Keen's book, through his pioneering discoveries, unquestionably demonstrates and explains the ancient mystery of dowsing, its connection to the cosmos and its use, and ultimate acceptance, in the world of science.
To mark its 125th anniversary, the prestigious journal Science, (article in The Times 1 July 2005) compiled a list of the major unanswered questions regarding the universe, which man struggles to understand. Pride of place goes to the nature of the universe, closely followed by the subject of consciousness. Keen's book not only addresses both subjects, but it also shows in a convincing way that both of these are linked. It also lays down the foundations for further research, including techniques to adopt, and avenues worth pursuing. Keen's book is packed with the results of carefully executed experiments with meaningful graphs and diagrams. The book is well indexed, the chapters are kept short and there are summaries at the end of every chapter. This is just as well, as this book is not for the faint hearted! A general school level knowledge of science and mathematics is an asset. Some of the concepts are profound and occasionally mind-boggling!
Keen's book does not discuss the esoteric, but is firmly "fixed to the ground". This is serious scientific research, with the presented evidence referring to concepts such as mass, wavelength, field strength, distances, Fibonacchi series, and geometry.
To reflect this unique scientific research, and numerous published papers, Jeffrey Keen has been awarded the prestigious Bell Essay Award by the British Society of Dowsers. The last time this award was made was 7 years' ago.
It is up to the world of science to accept that this research is cutting edge. It is a great step forward in our scientific knowledge, which, once accepted, will benefit so much of the current scientific research being undertaken throughout the world.

To mark its 125th anniversary, the prestigious journal Science compiled a list of the major unanswered questions regarding the universe, which man struggles to understand. This list was also highlighted in an article in The Times on 1 July 2005. The two most important unanswered questions relate to the nature of the universe, and the subject of consciousness. Keen's book not only addresses both subjects, but also shows, in a convincing way, that both of these are inextricably linked. Laying down the foundations for further research, including techniques to adopt, and avenues worth pursuing, Keen's book is packed with the results of carefully executed experiments with meaningful graphs and diagrams. The Physics of Energy Dowsing
|
|
When mainstream scientists talk about tests perfomed on dowsing they are usually referring to work done by other mainstream academics. They either don't realise that there are scientists within the dowsing community or else dismiss their efforts as "bad science" without even reading their work. In any other field, a scientist would expect to spend some time aquainting himself with his chosen area of study, through practical experience, reading research papers and so on before commencing experiments. This rarely happens for dowsing. For example, when the astronomer Vincent Reddish began his investigations into dowsing he seems to have ploughed straight in with little or no advice from anyone else. He sweeps notions like the involvement of extended human consciousness under the carpet, along with map-dowsing, dowsing for health or any other notions about dowsing he might find too far-fetched. Reddish concluded that the dowsing reaction is a physical response with a physical cause, namely interference patterns within a field which covers planet Earth. This field is not anything to do with EM radiation, instead it is known as the "spin-torsion" field and it is generated by the spin of the Earth about its polar axis, and possibly also the spin of the Sun. According to Reddish, the dowser is able to respond to these inteference fringes because the water in the dowser's own body reacts to changes in this field. The trouble is, not only does his theory ignore many aspects of dowsing, but many of Reddish's conclusions seem counter-intuitive to many people within the dowsing community. Jeffrey Keen, like Reddish, has a background in the Physical Sciences. Unlike Reddish, Keen is a member of the British Society of Dowsers and has gained years of experience as a dowser before deciding to publish his book. The result is a work that many dowsers will find much more satisfying. For one thing Keen does not duck the issue of the involvement of Consciousness in dowsing. The book is packed with the results of carefully executed experiments with meaningful graphs and diagrams. The book is extremely well indexed, the chapters are kept short and there are summaries at the end of every chapter. This is just as well because, as the physicist and BSD member Jim Lyons pointed out, this book is not for the faint hearted! A familiarity with the terminology of Energy dowsing would be a good idea, as would a general knowlege of some Quantum Theory and general Physics ideas. Most of the mathematics involved would not tax an intelligent teenager too much, however some of the new concepts are definitely high-brow and occassionally mind-boggling! There have been studies on dowsable energies in the past of course. One of the best known was "Needles of Stone" by the dowser and author Tom Graves. Keen's book is very different. You won't find any discussion of UFOs, fairies, angels, ghosts or the Goddess here. Instead you will find mass, wavelength, field strength, field range, Fibonacchi series and geometry. That's the sort of book this is. Tom Graves once commented that the subject of Energy dowsing was in a mess. Perhaps now, with the publication of this book, there is some hope. Ian Pegler.
