Customer Reviews:
Prison Diary Heaven
The last volume of the 'prison diaries' kept me with him the experience and gratification of being in the hospital and trying to help other prisoner showed the more human side of Jeffrey Archer. I like others would have liked a short diary of his confinement in Lincoln Jail. The Home Office and prison system tried to make an example of him, but in the end Jeffrey was able to let others know what he really went through. I have read all his books and look forward to continue reading him.
THE BEST BOOK I EVER READ
READING THIS BOOK WAS A GOOD CHANGE FOR ME FROM SUSPENSE AND DETECTIVE NOVELS . LORD ARCHERS GENERAL WITTY STYLE OF WRITTING IS CLEARLY SEEN HERE THOUGH THIS IS LEAGUES AWAY FROM HIS USUAL WRITTINGS REVOLVING AROUND POLITICS THE BOOK IS SIMPLE ENOUGH AND HE HASN'T IN ANY WAY HIDDEN HIS FEELINGS BUT HAS STILL WRITTEN AS IF ADDRESSING THE READER IT IS UNLIKE ANY OLD DIARIES I HAVE READ BUT IT CA'T BE CALLED ANYTHING ELSE IT IS WITTY FUNNY AND HAS ALL THE GRAPHICAL DETAILS OF HIS LIFE AT PRISON I WAS SO INTRIGUED BY HIS BOOKS THAT I HAVE READ ALL THREE PRISON DIARIES THE BOOKS ARE EVIDENTLY WRITTEN IN HIS USUAL STYLE FAST PACED WITTY AND SOMETIMES EVEN CONTAINING THOSE SMALL THINGS THAT DONT REALLY MATTER BUT WITHOUT THEM THE STRORY WOULDN'T BE COMPLETE IT IS A MUST READ AND A SURE BUY FOR YOUR COLLECTION IT IS ALL WAYS A LORD ARCHER CLASSIC
Jeffrey for Prime Minister
I have read most of Jeffrey Archer's books - but this is based on truth and that truth is unpalatable. It's unpalatable that our judges - supposedly people of the highest integrity - can be people of the lowest form of life. It's unpalatable that the prison system can take so long to change gear or move direction. It is unpalatable that we show such little respect for human life.
Fletch was an inmate who featured in this book. Towards the end, when he allows us to know the circumstances of his life, I was in tears. For the last three days this man has haunted me. The compassion he now shows for his fellow inmates is remarkable. For his story alone, this book is worth the reading.
May God bless and him and keep him. Certainly no-one else seems to be doing much caring.
Far better than any of Lord Archer's novels.
I've read and enjoyed Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less, Kane and Abel, First Among Equals, The Prodigal Daughter and Shall We Tell the President? but until I discovered "A Prison Diary" I did not truly appreciate Archer's talents. I bought and read volumes I and II as soon as they came out and so eagerly waited for the final volume. It did not disappoint. The detail is the killer factor, Archer writes with such interesting details as the cornerstones of his diary.

"Mike (lifer) appears twenty minutes into the film, with a chicken curry in plastic containers - part of his cookery rehabilitation course. Doug serves it up on china plates - a real luxury in itself, even though we have to eat the meal with plastic knives and forks. I eat the meal very slowly and enjoy every morsel".

To read a great book, the most interesting book I've read since leaving university, I recommend Prison Diaries.

Gripping Read
Having enjoyed all of Jeffrey Archer's books I am now reading volume one of Prison Diary. It is fantastic. Written in his usual witty style, what makes it even better is the insight of what really goes on in our prisons. Names and places bring the book closer to reality and little or no imagination is needed to bring this book alive and enjoy it. Archer makes no friends out of enemies by naming and shaming them throughout the book, and you can see howthe British Legal System can be unjust in surprisingly public situations yet it is the smaller less public members of this system that uphold human rights and fairness helping people who have chosen the wrong path in life find the pleasures of returning to the correct path. I have really enjoed the book so far and have only put it down to add this review.
