This edition collects all of the new stories from Shazam! #1 - 35 (1973 - 1978)! At last a Showcase collection from the modern(ish) era. I love the Showcase books but unlike many of the Marvel Essential collection releases so far, the showcase books have been golden and silver age stuff that although interesting is not really that entertaining a read for modern day kids (or more likely these days adults). Although I only have about 4 of the original comics featured in this volume I think it is fair to say that the series as a whole was quite good rather than great and was not in any way a class leader. Having said that they were fun reads and at under a tenner would make a great gift for a kid or ex comic book junkie.
