This book is mainly aimed at the U.S. market, notorious for its fast food and larger than large food portions. It explains how to get back to basics in food consumption following simple, common sense "rules" that have been part of the French culture for centuries. This culture is lacking in America due to its relatively young status as a country, and healthy habits that have been passed down from generation to generation over centuries in France can be followed to allow healthy, consistent weight loss without actually dieting. It is more a change of lifestyle than a "diet" and certainly does not incorportate any form of starvation or sufferring. Although not obese myself, I need to lose some weight, and have tried (unsuccessfully) to lose weight and keep it off on most of the currently popular diet fads around. However, my French in-laws seem to be able to indulge in all the things we have been told are bad for us over the last 30 years yet remain thin, cellulite-free, healthy and have none of the health issues those on "low-fat" diets encounter. For the first time, a food book that makes real sense of the crazy way we are eating, and if you follow Dr Clower's advice you can be sure to enjoy higher quality, richer food and still lose weight. I have been following his recommendations of eating for only 3 days, yet already I feel thinner! And I am eating cheese, wholemilk yoghurts, full fat milk, butter, cream and healthy fats. His recommendations fit in exactly with the way the French eat, and although I am married into their culture, I never understood how and why they could eat so decadently yet still stay so slim. Now I know.
