Soul Food for the Horror Fan's Soul
|
Okay, so on the surface, you may think an anthology of horror stories set in and around the environments of fast food stands might get a little silly. Fortunately, the editors of this horror anthology have really upped the stakes and have delivered quite an excellent collection of thoughtful, creative, and unique stories for those of us so inclined.
They say never judge a book by its cover, or its layout, for that matter. In this case, I think both the stories and the accompanying graphics throughout the book are equally as invigorating. On all fronts, this is a classy, extremely well put-together book. Highly recommended!
Personally, I've always been fascinated and repulsed by the fast food industry, so this is some really creepy territory to be wandering into without an escape plan. Dare ya!

Good eats

The mandate from the editors of FRIED! was this: no "They're grinding people into hamburger!" stories. No Soylent Green, no Texas Chainsaw Massacre - they wanted original ideas set in and around fast-food restaurants, and they got 'em in spades. Some of the stories just happen to take place in a burger/chicken/worse joint, while the eatery is central to the plot for others. In every case, the reader gets 100% real horror, along with a fair share of cheese and lots of ketchup...oh, wait.
The tales are well-written and many of them take the antho's theme in surprising directions. If you love quality scares and gore at value-menu prices, this volume will be your taste.
