I doubt that John Yeoman is the worlds best gardener, but this is a cracking little book. It's packed full of practical ideas, and is just what it takes to move from the "I wish I'd planted something this year" to actually sticking stuff in the ground. It also focuses on keeping costs to the minimum (a subject close to my own heart, having once produced the world's most expensive six raspberries). I'm sure it's possible to find more detailed books on how to grow eight different varieties of runner bean, but as an inspiration to get started and grow your own produce - for less than the costs of the materials - this a great little book. Finally, Mr Yeoman has a a dry wit and amusing writing style which even make it a good read!
