I have read all 3 books in the Shoddy Town Trilogy by Fred Butler, all whilst living in Canada, where I have been for over 26 years.
Prior to that I lived in the North of England, and reading these books brought back many memories of my time growing up in the north, and many, many smiles as I read his stories. He has a wonderful way with words, and paints a vivid picture of events 'way back', in many ways a much more gentle time.
I recommend reading all 3 books in the series to anybody who has 'emigrated' from the North of England, or for anybody who likes a good laugh!
