Some might find Shaw's blunt, honest style intimidating or shocking, but he communicates fierce passion and fragile sensitivity with amazing understanding of emotion. With some of his work he places the reader in an awkward position of voyeurism, forcing them to feel his own vicious lust. In other poems his use of certain words and metaphors evokes a much gentler, lighter feel, as he tries to describe love and confusion. You can't help but read on, and by the end you feel real compassion and empathy for Shaw. My friends and I all adore this book, but I suppose it is an aquired taste; if you are close-minded you will hate it. If you appreciate great poetry you will love it.
