The author is a pioneer in diving medicine from Australia; he approaches this subject in a comprehensive, lucid and humorous manner. The book is most informative and illustrated throughout with excellent photos of the dangerous marine life and the injuries they are capable of inflicting. Each creature is illustrated with a colour photo for ID, it's scientific family, genus and species name, along with geographic distribution. The first aid for treating the injuries is also given alongside prevention, clinical features and points of general interest. This is a great reference book well worth the purchase price and small enough to chuck in your bag for reading on vacation or to be kept for reference in your diving medical kit or at your dive shop. Although this book was 1st published in 1995 it has not yet been improved upon by anyone. The only other book that comes close is A Medical Guide To Hazardous Marine Life by Paul S. Auerbach, this however is a much slimmer volume. Dr. Edmunds also has written a great book on diving medicine for scuba divers, check it out.
