One of the great role playing games.
|
The setting is fairly familiar to everyone who grew up in the eighties, or has played many computer games. Dark future, with flashy neon signs and metal limbs etc.
What raises this above the norm is the system, the game mechanics are excellently diverse and well rounded. the rules are easy enough but cover everything you need to cover all aspects of any adventure you could imagine.

Welcome to a dark future

You can almost smell the poluted air and feel the acid rain as you read the pages of this book. Lots of pages of stats, character generation tables and lots of suitably vicious equipment. However it has much more then that though, the pages are filled with detailed information on the background setting. Lots of tips for how to make your new city feel and smell like a proper cyberpunk city should. Ways to challenge your players and yourself with interesting hooks for short games. The included basic scenario gives you a good taste of what you can expect. If you can mange it try to track down the magazines for each of the "roles" they're really worth it for the atmosphere alone. The rules are detailed enough to handle anything you want but slick enough that you don't need to remember hundreds of rules to be able to do anything. In short if you want to explore a world where you can't shrug off a direct hit from a tank because you have high levels, or do things that are utterly impossible then this is the system for you. The game system reminds you constantly that no matter how tough you think you are you can always be killed. The new artwork adds a little bit of spice to an already sublime product.

Good book with detailed information based on a great idea.

The roleplaying system is easy to use, using d6 and d10. The ideas are griping with a level of reality and dark sci-fi perfect for creating a role playing atmosphere.
