Truly inspirational.

As other reviewers have mentioned this book is spiral bound and it is also quite small (approx A4 size when opened flat)which means that it is an ideal size if you need to carry it and your work with you. There is a stitching guide chart which suggests what threads/yarns suit which fabrics along with the corresponding size of needle required. It has many useful tips including; using hoops and frames, methods of transferring designs and also methods of enlarging or reducing designs. The stitches illustrated are divided by stitch type e.g. flat, cross, looped etc. and are clearly shown with line drawings and beautiful photographs. (There are nine basic stitches demonstrated for left-handers.) There is a large section on combination stitches especially for crazy quilts which clearly shows how each combination variation is put together (including a suggestion on how to stitch the spider and web). There is also another section on free form stitchery which has photographs and sketches showing how the author uses painting, patchwork and embroidery (including silk embroidery)amongst other skills to create various stunningly intricate collages. I was so pleased with this book, even as a beginner, it gave me real motivation to go and try out some of the stitches and ideas for myself. Definately a book to add to my library. If I have to make a tiny criticism it would be that it might have been nice if the publishers had included some extra blank pages so that you could note and add your own ideas on stitch combination.

A clear and concise book with illustrations to inspire.

This is a book of wonderful and inspiring illustrations. The diagrams are clear and concise. The diagrams show how easy it is to add to the stitches with other stitches to make your work grow.Judith has a wonderful ability to make one stitch turn into at least 10 different stitches with her use of colour and beading. This expands the depth of the stitches to make them more interestiing and gives them more width and versatility and interest.A wonderful book and very practical being spiral bound so that it lies flat and stays open while you are trying to reconstruct these stitches.

Beautifully illustrated book.

Physically, Judith's book is beautiful, containing many beautiful color pictures of her stiches. The book is also spiral bound so it lies flat while you are stitching. The book contains many beautiful stiches from beginner to advanced as well as samples of her work. She clearly illustrates each stitch technique. I purchased this book when I first became interested in silk embroidery and feel that it is the only book you will ever need. I highly recommend this book to all levels of silk embroiders.

A delightful book for embroiderers of all skill levels.

This book is an excellent gift to give an embroiderer of any level. It's a pretty little book, beautifully illustrated, and a sound stitch guide. The stitches include those suitable for a beginner, but even the experienced embroiderer will find a new stitch or two. The stitch illustrations are good line drawings and the completed stitches are photographed. In addition to the stitch guides, the author includes photographs of completed works that are truly inspirational. She also includes several pages of victorian stitch combinations that are unique to embroidery books presently in print and that create wonderful effects. Finally, this book incorporates a nifty innovation - it's spiral bound so that it lays flat while you're using it.
