St. Hilda

I couldn't agree less with the previous reviewer. Being mostly unfamiliar with this period of English history I was very pleasantly impressed by how well researched, informative and interesting this little booklet was, indeed not only about St. Hilda but also the England she lived in and the people she knew. The customer above must either not have known how many pages this had prior to ordering it or had really unreasonable expectations of how much information can be fit in 32 A5 pages. He even seems to find fault with the author for the lack of primary sources relating to St. Hilda. That's hardly fair. Was she supposed to make them up? For what it is, this is absolutely great. In fact I came her while looking to buy another booklet by Ms. Mundahl-Harris, on St. Hilda's "protégé", Brother Caedmon.

An interesting quick read but...

The book gives a quick overview of St. Hilda and attempts to piece together a timeline of her life. I appreciated the author's candor in regards to the fact that there is not a large body of information to draw upon regarding this saint. As such, there are gaps in which the reader will thirst for more information on St. Hilda and go away thirsty. Although the author draws upon the writings of Bede and other works, the author does not cite sources. If anyone is hoping to utilize this resource for scholarly purposes, then look elsewhere. Overall, this "book" (more a pamphlet) is an interesting and quick read but not worth purchasing.
