If only...

...the rest of the book was as good as the cover.
Mind, I'm not pooing it. I mean, the guy can paint. No doubt about it.
And yet...
...I was left wondering if he'd made any progress. Some of the pics look a bit over airbrushed, and some don't look as if they're finished. But that's just my take on it. Who am I? Well, apart from somebody who thought, "Cor, great cover, can't wait to see the rest", and found myself vaguely disappointed. Not greatly, just vaguely. Couldn't help thinking that some of the pics were part of a portfolio to get a first job in illustrating. Thing is, when there are artists of Boris Valejo, Julie Belle and Rood's ilk, the standard is way up there in the Pleiades. Or Pluto. Betelgeuse, maybe. Um. Well, I've used up my knowledge of the heavenly spheres, so it just falls to me to say: It's good, but, erm, not that good. But I bet a lot of budding artists out there will buy it now and look at this review and think: "What a clueless tosspot."
Make up your own mind; I bought it without a review to look at, so if this is going to put you off I say: get it. If nothing else, it'll leave you thinking "hmmm, (chin stroke), I can do that...".
