Not suitable for those with limited experience (in my opinion)

I bought this book at the same time as my first ever Digital Multimeter and hoped that it would provide me with a decent start in my quest to be able to problem-solve electrical issues at home.
On flicking through the first few pages, i was surprised to find that the author was just talking through the difference between analogue and digital multimeters. Seeing as i had already bought mine, it was irrelevant.
The book was first published in 1988 and is not an easy read. It comes across as way too complicated and i think it needs a drastic overhaul to bring it up to todays standards of 'help' or 'reference' books.
I want to be able to test for example a heating element to see if the circuit is damaged. I don't know where or how to connect the multimeter probes, or to then interpret the information - that is what i was hoping this book would teach me and sadly it fails.
