Customer Reviews:
An excellent piece of writing
I was more familiar with mysticism, having only relatively recently stumbled on Heidegger and his attempts to overcome philosophy (metaphysics). Caputo convincely shows that the arguments of Heidegger's detractors - especially those that level against him the charges of tautological irrationalism - have not listened closely enough to the language. This is a book that is not for "reading" but for experiencing and thinking in a completely different sense. There are undeniable similarities - and importnt differences - between the mystcal God of Meister Eckhart that cannot be grasped and Heidegger's Being as that which recedes in its historical dispensations, along with the 17th century Silesius' poetry of the Rose that needs no "why". Thinking with Caputo is very rewarding, and, perhaps surprisingly, I found this book about the thinking of two old German men is a very relevant place to proceed thinking from in our own epoch.
