An advanced strategy for making money by writing a poker book
After playing poker online for about two years, and usually just managing to break even or make a slight profit, I wanted to try and improve my game and make more consistent profits. However, since buying this book and following its advice, my poker bankroll has plummeted. I've reluctantly come to the conclusion that the only people who make money out of online poker are the site owners and the people who write poker books.

Much Better This Time, John!
I was 'underwhelmed' by John Vorhaus's first 'Killer Poker Online' book - which surprised me, as I'd always enjoyed his Poker Player Strategy Articles over the last few years. So I decided (given Amazon's competitive price) to give his 2nd Online book a go, in the hope the promise of 'Advanced Strategies' would fit the bill more as an improving intermediate player. I'm pleased to say I have found the book much better and even if it lacks the intensity and detail of the classic books of Harrington, Sklansky and most recently Arnold Synder, I have found his chatty, yet well thought-out views on tackling tournaments, sitngos and heads-up to be enlightening and hopefully very useful. There's much more meat in this book (I think the first would have benefitted from this type of depth) and already as someone who plays tight-aggressive, but perhaps not always as aggressive as I should be, I am seeing his observations as being helpful. There's still no guarantee that your pocket rockets won't get cracked all-in by K8o, but I think it will improve the chance of going deeper into tournaments with bigger stacks more often, playing heads-up much better, and judging cash table opponents better. I'd still recommend the other books to give you the advanced grounding, but this internet book complements such books well and should pay back your investment in it very quickly. Well done, John - my faith in you has been restored.

A couple of Fab ideas
Although this isnt a great book, the author does have some really good ideas. The sections on reading opponents (throughout the book) are well written and extremely useful. The book covers cash, tournament and sit and go no limt online play. I have introduced the authors ideas on note taking to my game (with a few alterations and several hiccups) and can think of actual hands and games when I made enough money to cover the purchase price. Beginers beware, this is a book to improve the play of those that can play and in my experience it did exactly that. If you play me on line just write AO HC CD in my notes page, buy the book if you want to know what it means.

Something new to think about
If you are looking for hand examples, or how much to bet pre-flop, on the turn or river then you will be sadly disappointed. This book is all about a mental approach to poker, and in particular on the internet. Vorhaus demonstrates that there is a wealth information available to better inform your decisions.
I try to take at least one concept from every poker book I read, in this there are at least 5 that were either new to me, or explained established ideas in a better way. Just ask yourself "What is an orphan flop?"
Enjoyable, readable. I have had it a week and I am already reading it again.
