Customer Reviews:
Save your money
This book is weak. Content is thin, repetitious (to the point of taking the p*) and the presentation bland. Pictures are on the whole cheesy (eg Ranette Hastie: some hill billy red neck in blue denim dungarees and loose perm pretending to play the guitar in a barn SHOT WITH SOFT FOCUS!!). Save yourselves, and your money.

Night and Low Light Photography by Lee Frost, on the other hand is excellent. Lee covers everything Bryan “with my camera mounted firmly on a tripod I brought the exposure to a close” Peterson covers, more eloquently and in half the pages. Buy it instead.

Read it a second time......
I read this book through quite quickly the first time and made notes about various exposure settings etc. and thought 'that seems to make sense' -
- a few weeks later I had time to fully digest this book a second time - reading carefully and thoughtfully..... now I reckon I fully understand the speed/exposure/ISO relationship and how they all work together....
If you want to get out of 'point and shoot'mode buy this book.... well written and easy to understand.
Very disappointing book
I found this book very disappointing, and I am sorry that enthusiatic reviews here persuaded me to buy it. It isn't about exposure; it is about the basic use of the controls on a manual camera. If that's what you want, fine; it's probably alright for beginners or for those just graduating from all-automatic cameras, but even then I don't think it's well organised and I can't believe that there aren't better options out there. If you already know the basic effects of changing things like aperture, shutter speed or film speed, then there is probably little of value for you here.
Well At Last...
Well after attending a year long evening class in photography I have learned more about getting the right exposure with this book than I have done so far at college....and I am only on page 28! Well done to Mr Peterson, there really should be more books like this.I was beginning to lose all hope thinking I really couldn't understand the logistics behind taking a great photo but since reading this book I am definitley carrying on and boldly walking that new road to change my day to day office career. Thanks for the inspiration if you are reading Bryan! Great book!
A Life Saver!
After studying photography one evening a week for a year and reading every book posible - I was still unsure about correct aperture and shutter speed control. This book help me put everything in perspective! I was ready to give up!
Well done! A really helpful and visual book. I would highly recommend this to anyone!
