As others have written I think these are the best three books of the series. I read the first book near when it first came out and then the others near to when they were published. I haven't gone back and re-read the series and so much is packed into the books that I can't remember all the connections and twists that relate to the newer books, but can still remember what happened in these first books. So if you are looking for something lite to read, is interesting and keeps your attention, and will take time to finish this is the series for you. The one thing I've found frustrating with the series (especially in the later books as the plot grows) is the characters never seem to communicate what is going on inside and so seem just ready to meet misfortune before... you get the point and maybe why the books are interesting to read. Will they defeat the 'Dark One' in the last book or will the world break as the 'wheel of time' turns?

If i had never bought the first wheel of time book, the eye of the world, i would never have known what i'd be missing. The whole series is a masterpiece of writing that takes you on a truly massive and absorbing story filled with twists, turns, side plots, back stabs, darkness and light in eternal battle. Jordan has created a group of loveable characters and people with such wonderfull characters that you feel their real and you know them. On top of that he has complimented the stories with cameo characters by the hundreds who fill out the plot and pad out the text. What Jordan does in truly grand style however is making you feel the vastness and the scale of the world and its people. He takes you on indepth sub plots of politics, personal hatreds, and massive vast battles which you can really imagine as he explains them. The imagination of Jordan has created this complicated story into something beyond addictive, you practically want to live it. The first three books represent the start of the journey for a few young farming folk who take a trail through a fantasy land where darkness fights the light, and each character discovers there role in the world through either destiny, friendship or love. The world of the wheel of time refers to ancient arts of channeling (which is basically magic)where histories show major events in wars where channeling has changed the world, and how these young farmers destinys lead them to either learn how to channel, lead an army, lead a nation or lead the world into a battle against the dark lord... Definately worth starting if your even slightly a fantasy fan.
