I've read the reviews of this book and don't agree with them. OK, if you are socially skillful then this book may not be for you but for those who blanche at the thought of going into a room of new people it gives some basic idea on how to deal with anyone. In addition, it helps you understand some basic conversation openers for quite a few occupations / hobbies that will allow you to look like you are a great conversationalist when infact you just asked a question and then let them talk. Where this would be best is if you are going to an event (dinner / party etc) where you don't know too many people but can find out in advance about the interests of some of the people present. Then you can swot up on some of the openers. It isn't rocket science but then social skills aren't if you have them - but they seem like nuclear physics if you haven't got them. We've got a friend who is petrified of making conversation at a party and this is going to be his Xmas pressie
