The Ultimate in Aquarium Reference Books
I first bought the two Atlases when I noticed that my local pet shops seemed to be getting more and more exotic fish without any idea what any of them were (labeling them eg. 'Red Cichlid ?', or 'Marine Angelfish' - actually a batfish!!). I was already helping in an advisory capacity for the fish side of the business, and with the help of these books, identifying fish and finding out their needs became a lot easier. Note, however, these books are not designed for a beginning aquarist, who just wants to know if a fish will go on a killing spree in their tank. Their main use is to get a positive ID on a fish, then for you to look up care specifics at another source (eg. the internet). As well as this, they (particularly the Marine Atlas) make wonderful coffee-table books, with huge amounts of beautiful photographs.

This is a must have reference for identifying marine fishes
This book does a good job of identifying and classifying marine fishes. It clearly identifies the Feeding, Lighting, Compatibility, Tank Decor, Tank Level, Temperature, and Specific Gravity for every fish in the book. An index is provided using both the scientific names and the most common names. This book does not have any text on how to keep an aquarium. It's purpose is to identify fish!
