Master of Chains

I had high hopes that this book (and series) might be a return to Forgotten Realms unearthing new writers to create decent and original tales. Unfortunately this book is full of modern prose and slang crammed ungracefully into a fantasy setting which makes for a very un-immersive reading experience (with the constant expectation of a character coming out with something like "whatever dude!" at any moment). Furthermore the story itself is amazingly shallow and terribly predictable.
Hopefully the other books in the series are much better.
