Unfashionable part of the world, but what a history!

I read this book as I'd heard so much about the author from my parents and Polish friends. It turned out to be an absolute classic and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I expect the names will be quite a struggle for people not used to slavonic pronunciation, but if you persevere you will be rewarded with a story of heroism and chivalry to match Lord of The Rings. The difference is that this really happened.

First rate historical novel.

|
A moving story of chivalry and treachery, set in days when honour was far more important than either life or death. If you enjoyed Tolkien, you will also enjoy Sienkiewicz.

A masterpiece. Yet more restrained than his page-turner, "With Fire and Sword".
