I was recommended the book by an aquaintance in the US on the basis that it had straightforward definitions of the terms used and good examples explaining the application and implication of each of the factors considered in EQ. The main thrust of the book is to identify the factors in one's personal make up that contribute to success in life and at work, and that the traditional IQ is only a small and, based on research, a relatively insignificant contributor to overall life success. Other elements, such as the ability to empathize with the people around you, control wilder impulses, cope with pressure and stress are found to be greater contributors. The book lived up to its billing in terms of being well structured and easy to read. I in turn would recommend it to those wishing to look at success factors in their day to day lives (not solely in a work environment) and try to develop these. The book contains exercises on developing the different EQ elements but, if it is lacking in anything, it is a self diagnostic test or similar to assist the reader in identifying and prioritizing those areas needing improvement.
