Customer Reviews:
a great read
this book is exciting, fast paced, full of new characters as well as fleshing out old ones.

It seems to me the whole idea of the midgaurdians was a rather odd one, but the more i stuck with the novel the more it all started to work.

The dialogue works really well, the conversions are easily as tense as any of the action scenes. This is definately the type of story you do not want to put down until you have gotten to the end, and what an end it is!

Any sci-fi fan will enjoy this, although some prior knowledge of battlestar galactica will help everything gel together.
Excellent
As an avid Battlestar fan having watched every episode from the mini-series to the end of Series 2 I felt this is an excellent story fitting nicey into Series 2. All the leading charators are hear and Peter David those an excellent job of bringing them all to life and weaving a superb story - recommended to any Battlestar fan
When the blood falls.....
After the rather disappointing 'The Cylon's Secret' it's nice to be surprised with the first rate novel 'Sagittarius Is Bleeding'. Proving once again that Peter David can write an amazing book on just about anything (see his various Trek novels and the Sir Apropos series to name a few) we are treated to a very clever story that sheds light on seveal key events in the Battlestar Universe.
Set in the 1 month gap between the episodes 'Black Market' and 'Scar' in season 2 of the show, the novel has several conjoined plotlines, much like the series itself, which allows you to see things from the latter half of season 2 in a totally new light.
Laura Roslin is having a hard time coming to terms with her near death experience and it appears that the transfer of Cylon blood may be having an effect on her. The Galactica is ambushed by Cylons and it appears as though there may be a spy on board when the Cylons predict the Galactica's jump co-ordinates. Tom Zarek stirs up trouble when he brings a group called the Midguardians into the political arena. Laura is having repeated visions about death, blood and prophecy and to top it all the Midguardians know that Sharon Valerii is alive and threaten to let the rest of the fleet know!
The book is brilliantly written and David shows that he has a firm grasp of the characters. The repartee between Roslin and Zarek is biting, the interplay between various members of the Battlestar crew is so real - you can almost hear the characters as you read - and the best, as always, is Gaius Baltar. His conversations with Six are funny, dark, disturbing and full of unsaid portents.
There are two points which make this story stand out. One is a fantastic dialogue between Baltar and Roslin with Six present in Gaius's head (a real surprise happens here) and the last page in which another Cylon model is revealed.
You get the feeling that the dramatic ending for the novel was something the writers didn't have time to do in the show and it's a real shock when you find out who it is!
So, for those people out there who are loving the new incarnation of Battlestar Galactica, then this book is essential reading!
