Editorial Reviews:
Dreamweaver 4 Bible is a tutorial and a reference, providing an excellent companion to Macromedia's professional Web-design package. Maintaining the high standard of previous editions, Joseph Lowery describes Dreamweaver in depth, offering hundreds of step-by-step examples, tips, cautionary notes and explanations of background technology.

The opening chapters offer a tour of Dreamweaver and show how to create and publish Web sites using the site management features. Next comes a guide to HTML, the code behind Web pages, which it is important to understand even if you mainly use Dreamweaver's visual tools. Chapters on advanced HTML focus on tables, forms and framesets. A valuable section on extending Dreamweaver covers insertable objects and Behaviours, complete with a guide to creating your own JavaScript Behaviours. The next section covers multimedia, with a particular focus on Dreamweaver's integration with Fireworks, Flash and Shockwave. There is also a guide to including RealMedia, QuickTime or Windows media in your Web pages. Towards the end of the book, a section on Dynamic HTML also covers style sheets, layers and Timelines. There is a brief look at XML, and the closing chapters cover Dreamweaver templates and team-authoring features.

This is a great book but there are a few caveats. It is not hugely different from the previous edition, which covered Dreamweaver 3. There is also no attempt to cover Dreamweaver Ultradev, which is the subject of a separate title in the Bible series, and if you want to work with technologies such as Javascript, XML or Active Server Pages, you will need additional resources. As a guide to Dreamweaver itself though, this book is hard to beat. The companion CD-ROM includes hundreds of Dreamweaver extensions, examples from the book and trial versions of Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Flash. --Tim Anderson

Customer Reviews:
Great detail, easy to follow
I bought this book on behalf of our department and we've been fighting over it since! We got a selection of others relating to web design stuff, but this has been the most useful to date. It makes an excellent reference book but at the same time, it works well if you are still learning the product (as we are). Using Dreamweaver? Buy this.
Makes it all clear!
When I first bought Dreamweaver 4, I was very confused by it, being completely new to web-design and not having a remotely technical mind. As a last resort I bought this book, and instantly everything started to become a lot clearer and my site began to take shape. It is very easy to follow (particularly for a moron like me) whilst not making you feel patronised. I get the impression that it would also be a valuable resource for anybody with some prior experience of Dreamweaver, as it goes into considerable depth in places and is clearly laid out for revision purposes. Highly recommended.
Completely satisfied with the book.
I was looking for a good book about Dreamweaver 4. After some searching I found at Macromedia's Dreamweaver newsgroup many people suggesting this one. They were not wrong. Complehensive, analytical and complete. Suggested to everyone wants to learn Dreamweaver.
A very good reference for serious users.
I bought this book after I had been through Sams book and had made a website. That was a struggling period. Then I bought the Bible and now I am just filling in the gaps in my knowledge by using this book whenever I need it...eg when I had to tackle the audio files integration in my new website I opened the chapter on it and there it was...all the information I needed...same with all the rest of the topics.

The book is not a tutorial but is written well as to teach alongside presenting information in detail...Detail means larger coverage but slower progress if you want to go through the book start to finish...I would suggest get an easier book to begin with and then graduate yourself to this very useful and valuable book for reference and for learning ... Anyone who want to use Dreamweaver well should get this book...

Brilliant book which is brilliant for first-time users
I recently was introduced to the Macromedia applications and Dreamweaver is (and usually is) for many people, the first one that is used. I bought this book in the light that the author is a top expert in the subject and what a brilliant buy it is. I have started to use Dreamweaver as a pastime and want to explore its potential in the field of web-site design and creation and I have to say this book is top notch. From the very beginning, it explains everything in detail and no stone is left uncovered. I would recommend this book to anybody, good price and a brilliant read.
