Fun and useful, but it's hard to find specific information

This book is a good introduction to the kind of spoken German that a traveller will use. There are many useful dialogs and "fill-in-the-blanks" exercises, to test comprehension and get the user accustomed to speaking in German and answering simple questions. The biggest problem with the book is that it is difficult to look up grammatical items. There is no reference section for grammar and the other things anyone learning German needs to look up until they become second nature. Although many of these things are in the text, they are scattered around, and there is no index to help the reader find them in the book. A second problem is that the book is so oriented to travellers' needs that it does not teach many of the small words you need for everyday conversation.
