Absolutely Stunning

Simply the best wholefood cookbook in my pantry! Lovely recipes with a sound understanding of the principles behind wholefood cookery. I am constantly referring to this book for ideas, information, recipes, inspiration or sometimes just an interesting read!!
Well done Jude Blereau, a real triumph! I would highly recommend this book to any wholefood (or health conscious) cook, and particularly for macrobiotic cooks trying to find something that's not the restrictive diet of the oldschool macro movement which lost it's way some time ago.
A perfect accompaniment to Simon Brown's Modern Day Macrobiotics.

Would be better if she didn't pontificate
|
|
Decent enough recipes but the introduction, endlessly touting the benefits of organic and biodynamic food production and including some dodgy claims for its nutritional value compared with non-organic production, smacked of the food fascist. It isn't necessary to pontificate in this way - the advantage of home cooking and rejection of pre-packed supermarket meals can be made without the spurious claims. She claims organic doesn't cost more than non-organic - she clearly lives on a different planet to the one I inhabit. She also doesn't mention that "organic" standards vary from country to country. Much organic produce is imported (and hence contravenes her local is best approach) and the ability to confirm the supply chain is sometimes difficult. Furthermore there are plenty of small producers at farmer's markets who in effect farm organically but don't have the certification because they cannot afford to obtain it.

Healthy Future

I recently read this book and tried some of the recipes. I love the idea of eating better but find it hard to do. This book really helps - she writes like she is talking to me in the kitchen. The information makes good practical sense, and the instructions are easy to follow. Best yet the food is delicious. Try it yourself.
