This book is the course reader for the MBA in Educational Management at Leicester University. The chapters cover a wide spectrum of educational management issues; beginning with policy and management contexts, leadership, vision and strategic planning, then examining more particular areas such as human resources, financial and quality management. All of the chapters are fully referenced and they also offer more concise suggestions for further reading. As the book is aimed at master's level one would expect much of the writing to be based firmly upon research and theoretical models. And indeed this is the case. For example on appraisal and performance management, and vision and strategic planning. It even presents varying theoretical models on the management of resources. The adoption of 'Principles and Practice' as a course reader for the MBA should ensure it is successful. Though, as a thoroughly admirable book in its own right, it deserves a much wider readership.
