Scarrow back on form!.

I thought Simon's last book Eagle in the sand was a little weaker than his high standards for the other Macro and Cato books. Centurion is however a return to original form and is an excellent read. Fast paced and I could not put it down in the last 100 odd pages. This is more in line with some of the earlier books in the series. All the characters are fleshed out very well and the strenghts and weaknesses of Macro and Cato are portrayed very well.

An author improves

I am putting the same review on this book and Scarrow's first one in the series, "Under the Eagle" Now that one is poor; poorly written, bog-standard charactarisation and ho-hum action scenes, but...
By the time you get to "Centurion" we have an author who has settled into his style, still basic, but eminently readable, with the author's research and expertise in the subject lightly spread amongst the plot and the expansion of the major characters into almost loveable specimens.
So for those of you reading this review in "Under the Eagle" stick with this series, it gets way better.

Having read and enjoyed all the other books in the series this does not disappoint. Its a fast moving read with some awesome battle scenes with Cato and Macro getting well stuck in. This is a book for that most people will enjoy and can be picked up wether or not you have read the rest of the series (although i hope you do).

Best yet!!

Simon produces yet again! If you have been following this excellent series of books like I have the latest Macro and Cato adventure wont disappoint. As you would expect the lads are in the thick of it yet again, plenty of action and even a little romance (but not enough to distract the reader or our heroes!) As an added bonus I always learn something from Simon's books too! To close, an fantastic book worth every penny. :)

Good, as per usual

Does what it says on the tin, good story, solid plot, well researched, fast paced. Still nothing particularly brilliant (He's no Cornwell) but a more than entertaining read.
Liking the choice of a new title ^_^
