"What good is a lifeguard, who can't save lives?"
|
Everything seems to be going great for Ned. He has found Tess, a wonderful woman, who not only is funny and lovely, but also rich. He and his friends have set up the perfect score, which will leave each of them with a million to spend any way they wish. Therefore, there will be no more lifeguard duty for Ned. But as is usually the case, things go wrong in a jiffy. The paintings Ned and his friends were supposed to steal were not there, and it smells like a setup. To make matters worse, Ned's friends and Tess are murdered and he finds himself running from the FBI and the police with a big target on his back.
On the other side of the fence, we find Ellie Shurtleff, a member of the FBI art squad who gets involved in the case and has her interest piqued by Ned and his story. Will she try to help him, or will she follow protocol and proceed with the investigation as planned? This establishes the setting for a fast-paced manhunt throughout the Eastern seaboard, with Ned trying to find out the truth behind what happened and use that to prove his innocence.
Lately it has been somewhat of a gamble with Patterson's books. Some have been good and others flat out disappointing. Luckily, in this case, the final product hits the spot, with an entertaining plot, that blends well the action with the personal relationships among the characters. It seems to me that the Gross-Patterson collaboration has worked well in most cases, so this may be a hint as to the quality of future efforts by these two authors.

Exciting....

For me the lesson from this book was " Who can you trust?
Ned Kelly, nice name thought he has met a lovely girl, little did he know that it was all a fix. I loved this book and could not put it down and I tried so many times to guess who was behind the murders.
Great story line. I have read lots of JPs books and only just remembered to review them.
I love the Alex Cross books it is just awesome!

AMAZING AUTHOR.....

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE JAMES PATTERSON BOOKS, THE FIRST I READ WAS 'ALONG CAME A SPIDER' (WHICH I BORROWED FROM A FRIEND) AND I HAVE NEVER LOOKED BACK. I'D LIKE TO WRITE A REVIEW FOR ALL OF HIS BOOKS I HAVE READ BUT THERE ARE TOO MANY SO I WILL WRITE A GENERAL REVIEW. JAMES PATTERSON WRITES IN SUCH A WAY THAT KEEPS THE WRITER GRIPPED FROM START TO FINISH, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT'S COMING NEXT. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ALL HIS BOOKS, MANY OF WHICH I SELL AT A LOW PRICE, CHECK THEM OUT. THANK YOU.

Sorry, not good enough

James Patterson used to be such a good writer - What the hell has happened to him? I think he just can't be bothered any more. This is the sort of stuff that first-time wannabe writers turn out - no effort at research, the plot had so many flaws it made it look like it had not been checked at all! The "surprise twists" were about as subtle as a sledgehammer, and can be seen a mile off. I respect Mr Patterson, he has written some excellent books, especially the Cross series. But this is a lazy, lazy effort that stinks of 'in it for the money'. Oh there is one good thing - because it's such lazy and easy reading, it can be finshed very quickly, thank god.

Couldn't put it down

I really enjoyed this book. It had me gripped until the end. I love a book that does that and james patterson know how to write them.
I have read all of James Pattersons books and i have enjoyed every single one of them. The Alex Cross novels are excellent but even the one off stories like the lifeguard are just as good.
As long as he keeps writing i will keep reading.
