Sorry that it sat on my bookshelf for so long

I purchased Dee William's "Hopes and Dreams" and let it sit on my bookshelf for a long time. What a mistake that was. "Hopes and Dreams" is a excellent book. Ms. Williams tells the story of young Rotherhithe resident who meets an American soldier and falls in love. But after years apart Dolly and her husband meet again in America, but time and the war can change people. As with other books by Ms. Williams, she give the reader a heart-filled story with characters with real emotions. A book by Ms. Williams should not be missed.

Warm and knowledgeable
|
It's obvious that Dee grew up in this era and this particular area of London. No one who didn't know it first hand could make it come alive the way she does, and yet even though I grew up in a later era and a different city, I could still relate to Dolly and Penny, the daft things they did, the rollercoaster emotions, their worries about their own small world and the one currently at war. This is written by a woman who loves her family and loves her friends and it shows in the warmth of her writing.
