Not the Bastard Bunny I remembered...

Back in 1991 I visited London for two weeks and had a ball. One of my favorite (favourite?) souveniers that I brought back with me was Issue One of Bastard Bunny by David Anderson and Jiouxleigh Jacobs. The writing was funny, and the art was simple but effective. I still have it today. I even keep a photocopy of the cover hanging up at work. So I was extremely excited when, on a whim, I searched for Bastard Bunny on the Amazon UK site. When I found "Don't You Know Who I Am! " I immediately clicked off my order. When I got the book I was a bit disappointed. The characters are the same. The drugs and violence are still there. But it doesn't "feel" the same. The artwork is definitely more refined, but the book feels more "forced". Maybe the expression "you can't go home again" applies. Maybe I'm just reading it as a thirty-year-old instead of a twenty-one-year-old. I must admit, though, I am glad Bastard Bunny, Toot Toucan, and the rest of the gang are still alive and kicking...skulls.
