This is the first book in the Jacqueline Kirby series and it is the first book of Elizabeth Peters I have ever read. It's quite old. First published in 1972 and I think you have to take that into account when reading it but I still found it to be really enjoyable. It's basically a murder mystery set in Rome amongst a group of mostly American students. The main character, Jacqueline Kirby, is a librarian who eventually solves the mystery. A good read that deserves to still be in print.
