Customer Reviews:
Excellent!!!
A magnificent read, after i read the first book i bought the whole series and read them all in a month! Jacq uses historical facts to make fiction and its brilliant!
A good story
This is an easy to read book as is the whole set of 5. I think the review calling them trite and anachronistic is a bit over the top. One review also criticised the author by saying that there are words of more than two syllables in the English language, again too harsh! Good stories do not need big flowery prose and words. I have a keen interest in ancient Egypt and yes history has been manipulated along with fantasy holding a large part in these tales, but if you have a passion for anything Egyptian and can avoid the trap of overly analysing books, then these are ideal. I would also recommend them to younger readers looking for an easy intro into Egyptian culture and mythology.
Could this be more poorly written? No.
This series has got to be the worst of historic fiction. I had to read all for review purposes for a small local paper. I couldn't get over the following:

1) The characters are one-dimensional, cartoonish. Where is the depth? Where is the character development?
2) The dialog is trite and anachronistic. There are words of more than 3 syllables, Mr. Jacq, check them out. After reading the first 30 pages, I was fully expecting dialog such as, 'Let's toss another steak on the barbie'. Its truly pathetic if this is for adults.

For all of you folks out there who think this is great historic fiction, you are sorely mistaken. If you want to read about Egypt, try picking up "Memoirs of Cleopatra" by Margaret George. After reading something of that caliber, you will realize that these are written at a junior high level (my apologies to you bright 7th and 8th graders out there).

Perhaps its just the translation, but don't waste your time on this or any other in the series. Unless you want to be "under-whelmed".

Ramses II
Simply fantastic, you are drawn into a world of illusion, senusality, and mythical adventure. Ramses and Nefartari once again manage to deservedly take centre stage with a cast already introduced to you from the 1st book Ramses - again the plot moves along like a gentle wave and leaves the reader ready to book a one-way fare to this far off land, just to stand by his pyramid and imagine. If you have read the first book,Ramses this will again continue that magical love affair, if not it's still a great adventure but you'll rush to read it's predecessor before plunging headlong into the next exciting chapter, the battle of Kadesh. I found I couldn't put it down - worth every one of the 5 stars I rated it.
Excellent read, so is the whole series about Ramses
This is one of my favourite book-series, about the ancient egyptian times, and the Paraoh Ramses. The writer is archealogist from France, but i have read the books in English and the translation is v. goog, so no problems there. It is a definate time consuming book, as you won't be able to put it down. It has action and romance, and eveything of Kings and Queens! LOVE IT
