First in a really sparky series

This book is the first in a really sparky series about a feisty female PI called Grace Smith. She really grows on you. I loved the plot about a dead donkey and having read all three books, I can't wait for number four.

Something to build on, perhaps

Evans has been hailed as the British Janet Evanovich but she lacks the latter's laugh-out-loud wit. PI Grace Smith is oddly colourless and her search for the killer of a seaside donkey and, only incidentally, a local call girl, seems deliberately gimmicky. Still, this is only the first in the series and there may be something here to build on which will make perseverance worthwhile.
