This book was written to coincide with a forthcoming television series. It records the huge changes that occurred in Britain between the fifties and the sixties. The baby boomers who were children in the fifties, and teenagers in the sixties, lived through more changes than their parents or grandparents could have thought of. The book covers such areas as toys, fashions, cars, films, television, the home, food and teenage life. It not only highlights the way things changed between the two decades, but it offers a nostalgic look back to a world that was very different from today's. This book is hardly great literature, but it is worth a look, either if you're one of the "baby boomers" who lived through the period, or if the 50s and 60s are just history to you. If you're in this latter group, it might actually help you to understand your parents! The book is interesting enough to stand on its own merits, but I look forward to the television programme, too.
