Touching...

This touched my heart so much, from page one i just had to keep turning! As with "Marshmallows For Breakfast" & "Chocolate Run" this is very intense and all three i could not put down once i'd started reading! Dorothy reels you in and her writing is brilliant. Kamryn's struggles as she deals with racial issues and trying to cope with Tegan were portrayed so well, it made me wonder whether it was first hand experience. This book had me in floods of tears several times but there were laughs too, if you want something heart warming, intense & sweet this is for you! And for anyone who enjoyed "Marshmallows For Breakfast" you'll like this!

not as bad as all that !

Okay so it's not great literature but readers surely knew that when they picked up the book? It's chick lit which is very popular these days. So read it with that in mind ! It's not deep or enigmatic its a romance tale! So that's my rant over.... now to the book itself. Yes I did notice Tegans "royal blue eyes" and yes it was a bit irritating; the first few times were to remind us who Tegan's dad was but every single time was a bit insulting to us the gentle readers. I didn't like another reviewer have any problem with Tegan's stay with her grandparents Adele literally didn't have anyone else to ask. My question would be ; why did they agree ? They certainly were more than happy for her to be taken away from them. The only issue/s I have with this novel is that it generally (see above) labours the point again and again and again.....! Kam(ryn) has obviously had trouble with her attractiveness due to bullying as a child but this seems to inform everything she does thinks or says and Koomser never seems to miss a chance to remind us. Ending was a bit unlikely too can't say why as it would spoil the story for the rest of you but just to say 16 months later is a big gap to finally tie up the loose ends! Still not a bad read I've read a lot worse (eg the awful Wendy Holden books !!!)

This book is really good, I couldn't put it down and didn't want it to end.
It is very easy to get into, the characters are well presented.

Very good time

I spend a very good time reading this book. It is the first time I bought a Dorothy Koomson's book but I am so glad that I am going to buy others.
The reading is very easy, I am not english and I did not feel any difficulties. I am sure you will enjoy this book, "crying and laughing" all the time as Adele Parks said.

Koomson does it again

This is the third DK book I've read, and it didn't disappoint. I didn't like this one as much as 'The Cupid Effect' or 'Marshmallows for Breakfast', but that is not to say that this is not an enjoyable read, because it is. It held my attention throughout. The plot revolves around Kamryn's best friend dying, and Kamryn eventually adopting her daughter, Tegan. There are all sorts of issues such as Kamryn being black and Tegan being white, Kamryn having being betrayed by her best friend and her boyfriend in the past (an affair which resulted in Tegan and which caused Kamryn to leave and not speak to either Adele or Nate for two years). There is also a new romance with Luke, her new boss who initially takes a dislike to her. Koomson is excellent at developing her characters, and I felt like I went on a journey with Kamryn. Tegan's character is delightful but I couldn't warm to either of the male characters. Nate had betrayed Kamryn in the past, and Luke was initially so nasty to Kamryn about her looks, no matter how nice he was to her later on, I couldn't get past it. Kamryn does, however, and there is a happy ending.
