Excellent Army regiment family trees...

I bought this book out of interest without really knowing what the contents would be. I was surprised by how informative the book is on the army regiments, their roots in history and following through to the current day. The book is fairly up to date as there is information on the new Merican regiment, Duke of Lancaster's, Royal Regiment of Scotland, Royal Welsh, Yorkshire and reference in less detail on the regiments that have since formed as the Rifles.
As a badge collector THE most helpful thing about the book are the charts set out like a family tree, to follow the line of each regiment. The charts give dates when the regiment changed its name. It helps make badge collecting that much more interesting; from that information alone it's easier to discover how the newer badges were designed, and which elements of the badge and/or name came from which regimental root.
The only down points of the book are that the photos of army personnel are mostly black and white, and the fact that a lot of the pictures are 15 years old and older. These are supposed to show how the uniforms are worn, and yes, it's great for seeing that the peaks of the guards regiments were less severe years ago....but some more up to date photos, AND in colour would make the book much better than it is. However I would still highly recommended this book to militaria enthusiasts and collectors.
