Building Services Engineers Handbook
This is a good general companion for all engineers covering most areas of building services (Not a Design Book). It is always helpful to be able reference things that clients say to you like "how does a heatpump work?". One that confuses ever engineer when trying to draw one. Excellent and clear illustrations with some rarely seen plant which is very handy in those one-off jobs. Only one or two AHU illustrations more needed as the application of air handling is becoming wide and varied.Again CHW not enough illustrations. There are many applications for Chilled Water and various ways of achieving it. It is also very important that engineers do not mistake 'Flow' for 'Return'(very common mistake). A new comprehensive section on Controls Systems must be added to all BS books not just this one. Some books will show local room controllers this is not proper intelligent controls.

Ultimate Companion to Services
This book focuses soley on the services involved in the construction of medium to low rise buildings. It covers aspects of their installation, design and specifications with areas ranging from lighting to drainage, telephones to renewable energy - each covered in detail with fully annotated diagrams to complement. The information given ranges in depth from basic to slightly more complex, but is laid out in such an easy to understand manner that even a complete novice would be able to comprehend the issues dealt with. The quality of the diagrams too, is of the highest standard, easy to understand, well indexed and precise. The services handbook also includes all the latest building regulations and british codes of standard for materials. This means that as well as being an invaluable source of reference, it also becomes a source from which specifications can be compiled accurately. This handbook is undoubtedly a must for all students of construction, at any level, but would also be a useful reference point to a qualified services engineer. I myself have found this manual of immense value when studying for my degree. It should definately be a part of your reference shelf!

The ideal handbook for students
Having just completed a foundation degree in construction, i found this book to be a valuable source of information. For any student studying construction or building services at Btec, HNC, HND or higher level there is probably no other handbook that offers the same clarity of diagrams, depth and scope of information. It is set out in a very easy to use format, with sections covering the main aspects such as Gas installation, Telephones, Lifts and Security systems. Each is equipped with Chudley and Greenos trademark diagrams which are both easy to use and highly detailed. Although, like its companion the building handbook it does not enter into the greatest possible detail, there is no doubt that all students would benefit in some way from including the services handbook in their collection.
