If, like me, you benefit from the occasional prompt when faced with unusual subjects, then this book will be an asset. Most subjects that the junior anaesthetist will encounter whilst on call are described in a clear, well ordered fashion. Another use is to direct practice short answer questions for the final FRCA, giving a framework upon which to flesh out your answer. This makes it money well spent. This is, however, not a textbook of anaesthesia, and will not give enough information to direct treatment, but is invaluable as a handy aide memoire. If having read the short topic you are still none the wiser, then proceed at your peril.
