Gardening and Ghosts
Second in the In the Garden series follows the well trodden Nora Roberts paranormal formula; a trio of strong female leads who manage quite nicely on their own, thank you, but meet their equal in a man whilst avoiding danger. Black Rose is the most interesting of the series, despite the fact that Roz (Rosalind Harper) and Mitch, the geneologist she hires to track the Harper Bride's past, are the oldest members of the group.

Roz is very likeable and cares deeply for her grown up boys, because of this the ghost who haunts her ancestral home has always been kind to her, singing her children to sleep with lullabies. Now that Roz faces falling in love again the Harper Bride becomes angry and vengeful. More of the mystery is revealed in this one but the Harper Bride lacks any real menace so far to qualify for Henry James-ian psychological horror.

The romance is very satisfying - if you can get past two older people enjoying sex, which some friends of mine found hampered their reading enjoyment. The two leads have great chemistry but the repeated references to gardening and the obvious withholding of information for the final installment makes this fairly average. My advice SKIM the gardening sections and hold out for the ghostly encounters.

This is a paranormal trilogy that could have been an excellent single stand alone title in the manner of Three Fates. Fans of Nora Roberts in paranormal mode might want to check out the Key trilogy or her latest due out in September.
the second book of the Bride
Now I think that all women when they reached their forties would want to be like Roz. Dow to earth and gorgeous, and she makes this a very entertaining read as she falls in love with lovable Mitch (second love of her life) and tries to get to the bottom of Amelia's mesrtyrious past. Great read and follow up to Blu Dahlia. Worth it.
gripping
After reading Blue Dahlia i could not wait to get Black Rose once again Norah Roberts had me gripped chuckling and almost crying the book an avid page turner kept me up all night like Blue Dahlia more on the Harper bride a ghost who shows various moods i cant wait for Red Lily to find out the conclusion to this one of Norah,s Great trilogy,s the people in the book seem real you feel you know them personally.well done Norah,I wouild recomend any of her books
Nora Roberts - Black Rose
This book is brilliant. Would highly recommend reading this and the first book Blue Dahlia. I can't wait for the next book - Red Lily - its already on preorder. If you do anything this week, buy this book.
Brilliant
Loved this book. It is a fabulous romantic novel with fantastic characters. I think Nora must have really enjoyed this partciular novel as the characters are so good and the dynamics between them so lively. Maybe they will make a film. Highly recommended for summer reading and I can't wait for the third book.
