Unconvincing

Sometimes you pick up a convincing book and remain engrossed in it for hours, at other times you pick up a book and no matter how much you want to believe its content, you find yourself distrustful of it. This is one of those books. Having read a large number of books on magic, occultism, witchcraft & psychic development etc over the years, I can't help but think this book is a little twee. To me it seems that the author has created a compendium of rehashed information with a bias toward Wicca - of the modern trendy variety, and then added her own colourful ideas. This is unfortunate as it seems to cheapen the subject matter. Although psychic practices and their results can be very subjective, I still found the sections that deal with talking stones and talking trees a little hard to swallow! There are many books on the market that deal with the subject of psychic development and this I feel is not one of the more reliable examples. However, If you're new to the subject and treat the information contained in the book in a light-hearted manner, it will give you a good introduction to subjects such as Clairvoyance, Divination, Dream Symbolism, Ritual Magic, and the spiritual realm. If you're looking for a reliable, convincing text that will impart genuine and valuable knowledge you may be disappointed. This is a pop psychic/magic book that will appeal to trendy wiccans. But, on the other hand, if you're into the Goddess, crystals, earth energies etc, it might just be your thing.

An Information Packed Book

I found this book immensely enjoyable when I first read it in 1998, and I'm pleased to say that with a further reading recently, it is as good as I remember. Cassandra Eason has managed to cover a huge range of subjects in a relatively small space - magical alphabets, meditation, ghosts, ritual magic, psychic powers, divination, crystals etc. As well as general information and instruction about each subject, the book also includes 'testimonies' of many people who have written to Cassandra Eason documenting their experiences relating to the text. This book was what got me started on my Pagan path, as it provides a gentle insight into many Pagan practices without blatently advertising them as such. Whether this was intented or not, I don't know. The only problem I had with this book, and the reason I haven't given it five stars is that I felt it should have been renamed to be more in line with the content - the majority of the book deals with divination, rather than actual psychic development (although I suppose divination can be counted as a subsection of psychic development). However, regardless of that, this is an excellent book and deserves a place on the bookshelf of anyone with esoteric interests.

A very good book

If you are stuck for ways to tap into your psychic potential this book has it all. Over 35 ways to develop the things that were there all the time but you failed to notice them. I'm very pleased with this purchase. You will be too!

Excellent and a very interessting read

i really enjoyed this book it really inspired me to do the excercises in the book and become a more fulfilled person. it also made my beliefs in the god and godess stronger. it is written well and there are lots of sections such as divination and magick and also healing.which is good because it helps you so that you can out your pyshic powers to good use.i have always been interested in developing my pyschic powers and when i read this book and did the excersies i felt so alive, and rejuvenated. thank u!
