Interesting, but not totally convincing

Fingerprints of the Gods seems to be the type of book that is either loved or loathed, either convincing people utterly, or leaving them mocking its credibility. I don't particularly stand in either camp. Although many of the theories are interesting, and even possible, they are probably not the answers to the mysteries highlighted and the questions asked. Just because there are flaws in accepted Egyptology, that does not mean that a race of super humans built the pyramids. Hancock raises some very good points, and finds fascinating correlations in the themes of ancient myth. Unfortunately the conclusions he comes up with leave many more questions than you were faced with in the first place, and seem a bit too far fetched to be totally credible. His opinions may point to a different truth than that accepted by the close minded members of the archeological and scientific community, but in taking things too far into the extreme he will not be taken as a credible source by those he seeks to challenge. The ideas put forward left me with the same feelings I have when reading conspiracy theory websites or books - it all seems possible, but when all weighed up after the event it just all seems too unlikely to wholly believe. FOTG was definitely an interesting read, but rather than changing my life, as others have stated, it just changed the way I view ancient prehistory and the way it is perceived by modern scholars.

compelling read.

There will be those who will like a book like this, and there will be those who will never like books that have the capacity of turning one's world view upside down... It takes an open mind to absorb and evaluate the flood of information presented in this book, a willingness to go beyond what one has learned before as the so-called accepted truth... It is very much part of the flock-like human character to want to discard the compelling flood of anomalies as irrelevant, dangerous, or worse. Some comments in these reviews point in that very direction... Admittely, the book is written from a "let's show established archaeology how it's done" point of view, a little scholar-bashing if you will, but the long list of hints, proofs, hunches, etc. does make one wonder what might lay under thosemiles of ice over Antarctica. Let's wait and see what the first digs in Antarctica will produce...

I can't believe so many people fall for this

The problem with maintaining an open mind is the tendency for people like Hancock to come along and fill it with rubbish. Disillusioned with the scientific monopoly on objective reality,...(he)... churns out reams of unconvincing speculation, discarding the genuine efforts of centuries of careful scholarship. As he ploughs on with his transcontinental TV specials,... scientific orthodoxy blithely ignores him. It is infra dig to be drawn into a slanging match with the great communicator so on he goes, an ancient civilisation here, a lost continent there. The spirit of Von Daniken is alive and well, and about to produce another damn thick square book somewhere near you. Will the last to leave rationality please turn out the light.

Fascinating read which will change your mind

This book is incredibly detailed and contains eyewitness accounts of historical monuments and amazingly interlinking information. It explores the archaic, esoteric knowledge of the ancients and will keep you questioning for years. This is an essential read and will open your mind to various other mysteries which enshroud our ancient history and legacy. This book deserves six stars.

O.k - This Review is late - I read the Book back in 1996 when it came out and it amazed me.. This review is in counter to other 'Single Star' and 'negative' views and I will try to Say what I feel in light of these.. You look at the book and will think - Wow - what a Tome, but its trying to cover a Very wide topic. It Dares to question and doubt some of our Ancient history and has several KEY facts that are not to be ignored - At the danger of your own self ignorance and Denile.. Start the book with an open mind - but previous reviews are correct - it ain't all 100% backed up by Science.. But this is a huge subject - only one book and 2 chaps! When ancient maps predate detail that the US Navy are 'intrigued by'. R U ? Size - Layout - positioning of the multi-Pyramids at Ghiza reflect Orion in SO many ways, why ?! Why the Sphinx faces the direction it does and why its not in proportion. How could a desert area sustain the many 1,000's of people that built / lived at Ghiza ? Why bulid tunnels into a Solid Pyramid that are to small to enter, that change angles and at the end of a couple of right angles has a small (Alice in Wonderland) door (A Robot had to 'explore' to find this!) ? Look - there is enough 'stuff' in here to make you have some doubt and thats a good thing, there is certainly lots of rubbish information in our current History and it takes a sea-change to - change! (Look at Darwinism!) The more people that know it, the better refined and considerd these thoughts will become. This is not tripe this is Ancient Messages from a long dead humanity.. Try and Listen to what is being said - or at least the topics... I Dare you..
