an excellent literacy planning resource
|
As KS2 co-ordinator in an independent primary school I have found the Classworks Literacy Resource books a very valuable aid and we use them throughout KS2. They provide excellent texts for analysis and lots of very useful ideas for literacy lessons. There is little of what traditionalists would regard as formal Grammar or Comprehension work, but are great as a basis for class discussion at word and text level and for creative writing ideas. The whole thing is closely linked to the Literacy Strategy and the KS2 objectives are clearly indicated for each blocked unit of work.

Spend £20 on a resource? Yes, if it's as useful as this is!

Ever spent more than you should on a resource and then found that it didn't really do the job you hoped? Well, this book does not fall into that category! It sets out units of work to support the teaching of Literacy, all with clear, easy to follow lesson plans and very suitable text extracts. These are clearly printed and enlarge well on a photocopier. Each unit of work covers a different text type requirement of the NLS and supplies good checklists of features that children need to include in their writing. Useful models of shared writing for the teacher to use are also included. The units of work link reading with writing and there are suggestions for word and sentence level activities. The book also makes links with the Grammar For Writing publication from the DfES. A great resource which will save you hours of preparation time.
