This is the story of a girl who is being followed and mimicked by another girl who looks identical to her. A good simple premise that should work well. Sadly though this idea has already been used in Lois Duncan's "Stranger With My Face" and Duncan's novel is far superior, so if it is the premise that attracts you dig out Duncan's novel instead. I have read one other Catherine MacPhail book and wasn't keen on that either. It might be that at 21 I am too old for these books but I don't think so. MacPhail, for me, doesn't have enough depth in her novels. The characters are not developed enough which left me not carrying for them, the setting of the novel is not specific leading to not being able to imagine it. A problem I have with MacPhail is her interest in subplots that are quiet frankly boring and take away from the tension and the drama of the premise. Over all I think this book had the potential to be great but it just wasn't developed enough. If I was MacPhail's editor I would recommend another couple of redrafts! I would recommend you get this book out the library as opposed to buying it - I don't think it's worth the money.
