Customer Reviews:
Helene's view
The best and most enjoyable of all the French courses I have studied. I am living in hope that Linguaphone will put an advanced French version on the market!
Turns the scary into cuddly!!
For me nothing is more frightening than learning a new language, but this is excellent. Starts slowly, and before you know it you're speaking french!! Don't move to France without it!!
Linguaphone All Talk French: Level 1&2 Compact Disc
I found the CD's excellent as a reminder of the French I had learnt at school many years ago. My pronunciation and my understanding have improved greatly and I enjoyed (and still enjoy) working with the CD's. Very good for using whilst doing other chores e.g. driving, cooking meals, ironing etc.
Build your French language skills painlessly
This is an excellent way to brush up your rusty school french or build your skills from scratch. Its aimed at the adult market and for once includes basic conversational language as well as the typical ordering food and booking hotels. It covers aspects of grammar and builds over 2000 words.

This is the first French course that I have been able to use whilst driving, and being alone in the car makes responding out- loud much less embarrassing. There is nothing to read or right and the presenters talk you through everything slowly and carefully. Being on CD means you just hit the back button if you have missed something.

The thing that kept me listening to all 16 hours of the course was the story of George and Helen and the "Homme Bizarre" that runs throughout all 16 disks. The outcome was very satisfactory but I won't spoil it for you.

I'd definately recommend it as a painless way to improve both your vocabulary and speaking confidence. I'm looking forward to my next French holiday to try out some of my new skills.
Slow and repetitive
If I ever hear the phrase "repetez apres la deuxieme fois" I will scream. This is one oof the phrases the CD's use to introduce new vocabulary. The system is hte same every time - but they insist on telling grandma how to suck eggs. EVERY 5 minutes!
After 4 of the 8 CD's I could not take it any more and have given up.
The underlying story was vaguely interesting, but TOO SLOW, with lots of breaks for new vocabulary. Sometimes, teh new vocabulary is actually all the words used in the next scene.
I got bored with the story, because even though I was listening to the CDs in my car over a fairly short period, I could not retain enough interest. George, the central character has an astounding lack of general French, and has to be taught or have translated far too many words, some of which are common enough to us English.
It did not feel like a second level course, more a first level.
The Amazon review said "provides instant access to an extensive everyday vocabulary". What use do most people have of a vocabulary which allows them to describe a man who is mad, and therefore "all alone in the world".
I'm off to try and find a Harrpas Drive IN French. THeir German was good, but I thought hte Linguaphone looked better. I was wrong.
