Dreadfully Executed
I continued reading this book as I am a fan of Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders, both together and separately. But it is extremely badly written. A reviewer has already referred to the muddling of events, which I found has no purpose, and there is constant repetition of words and phrases - as well as appalling grammar. The prose is, moreover, dull, and 'insights' sledgehammered. The subject matter deserves more than it receives in this carelessly executed attempt at biography.

A muddle
Whilst certainly an accessible, often engaging, account of an intriguing public figure, "The Biography" has a somewhat confused order of events. Often flitting between episodes referred to previously in the book, you are left wondering where exactly you are, in the grand scheme of things. This might not sound like a major issue, but it muddles the narrative to such an extent that a great deal of clarity is lost. This muddled flow is endemic throughout the book, and mars what would otherwise be a concise, interesting account....Bowyer occasionally attempts to psychoanalyse French's actions, and explore her thoughts and emotions, yet invariably fails. Her successful, objective tone is therefore spoilt when she adopts a more subjective view later in the book, and although perhaps her prerogative, it goes against what could be so successful about this book. Nevertheless, if you are a Dawn fan, it is worth a read. You won't gain much insight into the comedienne, but you may at least be entertained along the way, no matter how disjointedly.

An Enjoyable Read
Whether you are a fan of Dawn French or not, I canguarantee this book will be a definate bedtime read. On screen Dawn comes across as a happy go lucky type woman, although this maybe true fate has not been kind to her. I will not give anything away but Dawn is a truly remarkable woman and this will become clear once you read her book!!!

Could have been so much better
The book is interesting in so much as it describes Dawn's rise to fame and her brilliant relationship with J Saunders. I would have preferred not to read the authors presumptions, facts are all I want to see. With a subject as fascinating as Dawn French, it could have been so much better.
