Thoroughly Enjoyed

I really enjoyed this book and believed in the attraction as it developed. When Annis is ill and cries out "oh why does he not come!" I felt like crying it out myself! A book I could read again and again!

Lovely story

I'm working my way through all Georgette Heyer's historical romances many years after I first read them, and this has got to be one of the best. A beautiful heroine who thinks she is past it at the age of 29, and an overbearing, rude hero who she tames, well just about! Apart from these two there are delightful secondary characters too. I was meant to be writing an essay, but curled up and read this cover to cover - much more fun! Highly recommended,

Wonderful
|
After a while it becomes difficult to find new things to say about a review of a Heyer novel. Ostensibly these are all the same. This is the stuff that classic romance novels are made of, appealing woman meets appealing man, they fall in love although neither know it at the time, a series of misunderstandings ensues, they end the book realising how much they love each other and all is well.
This is the formula for every Heyer romance, but don't let this put you off. Her wonderful way with words, her attention to detail, her sense of humour and the ridiculous scrapes she embroils her characters in, makes each book a joy and a delight in its own right. It doesn't matter that you know the plot. It matters that you know that Heyer will weave her uniquely brilliant magic on every page and have you enthralled to the last despite everything.
This is one of the Heyer novels in which we get a feisty, strong heroine to match a rakehell hero whom nobody can tame. Annis is fantastic, and a great, independent woman who despite her fatal weakness for a naughty boy (and who can blame her?!) retains her dignity and loveliness to the last.

top notch

this is the second of her novels that read and i totally recommend this one. very much identified with the main character who decides to make her own way in the world without an husband until the right one came along. slightly disappointed that we dont learn what happens to lucilla and ninian as i would have loved to have seen their love story unfold.
top marks for georgette again, great historical detail, didnt feel that the language was a hindrence this time.

A must read

I really enjoyed the way the book was written, If you like Jane Austen than you must read Georgette Heyer. I have now hunted her books down and am reading them one by one. The main characters- Miss Wychwood and Mr Carleton will not disappoint you. Absolutely a gem of a book!
