What? A witty and inventive first reader?!

Wow! Wit, great drawings, good text, easy to read words mixed up with a few harder ones.
And my daughter loved it, especially the picture of the cat with pants, she laughed for ages.
Really nice to find a first reader that isn't "worthy".
If your child has a sense of humour use these books, so much better than any of the other reading schemes and funny enough for adults to laugh at too.

This is a lovely first reader. I have been a big fan of Janet and Allan Ahlberg since my teenagers were babies. It has been a great joy to be able to rediscover this wonderful talent with my newest daughter. She has had this read to her since she was able to sit up and absolutely loves it. 14 months on and she still picks it as a bedtime reader.
This short book is based around two little boys going up to bed and getting their dad to tell them bedtime stories.
'Two little boys climbed into bed. Tell us a story, dad, they said.'
The poems based around dad's stories are ridiculous but the boys love them and continually find excuses for more.
'That story's no good dad,' the little boys said, 'Tell us another one instead.'
The ending is lovely too. But then you'll need to get your own copy to find out! Very highly recommended.
